Transportation
Currently, school bus transportation is provided to all students who live more than one and a half (1.5) miles from their school. One mile is identified as a reasonable walking distance to a bus route for students who are eligible to ride a school bus. Please be aware that the Buffalo Public School Board policy is more accommodating than that required by state law. State law establishes a two mile limit before transportation is provided.Transportation for students participating in magnet, choice, special programs, and exceptional education programs is provided under specific guidelines. Transportation is not guaranteed for magnet students who apply after the magnet application deadline.
Parents of kindergarten students should tag their child with his/her name, school attending, bus number(s) and bus stop.
Each parent/guardian of a kindergarten student will be asked to complete a form at their school to make a preference about dismissal. Some parents may choose for their child to be met by someone at the bus stop, and some may allow their child to walk home. All bus drivers are being instructed to transport only those kindergarten students for whom they have a copy of the form from the school. Parents will be expected to transport their kindergarten student home if they have not filled out a form with the preference for their child.
Please note: Parents have always been asked to fill out a dismissal form, but what is new this year is the "no transport" rule without the form. This added rule should increase student safety and rule out any miscommunication.
