The MHS Media Center has a group of computers that are available for student use. Students are expected to follow proper procedures when using these computers. The computers are provided for completing school-related assignments and not for use for personal items such as checking personal e-mail.
The MHS Media Center also has flash or thumb drives that may be purchased by the students for a nominal fee, usually $5 to $6. Also available in the Media Center are CDs and floppy disks. Our Media Center stocks these external storage devices as a service and convenience to the students, not as a profit venture.
Printing services in the MHS Media Center are available to students for a nominal fee per page. Our media specialist, media assistant, and TRT (technology resource teacher) are available to provide technical assistance to students who request help with technology-related problems.
Mountainside High School also has three stationary desktop computer labs and two mobile laptop labs. Technology guidelines given in the student agenda govern student use to all computers belonging to SDPC.
Unless a media center form is on file with the school's Media Specialist or administration, all students have access to the Internet and other computer technology at school. Abuse of this privilege could result in the denial or Internet or other technology use.
Computers and network files are for educational purposes. They are property of the Buffalo County Schools and may be searched at any time. Students may not download programs to the computer or to the network. Students should not use the computers to check personal email, participate in group chats, post or view sites that have non-educational message boards, play games, surf, change settings, or circumvent blocked sites. District policy prohibits the use of U3 flash drives in district computers.
For the first offense of any of these use violations, the student will be suspended from computer use at LHS for a period of not less than 30 days. Any further offenses will result in a conference with an administrator where further consequences will be determined.
